The Bluethroat/Blåhals (Luscinia svecica) is a breeding species in Denmark (since few years ago).
We are fortunate to have a few birds not far from where I live.
I remember seeing this striking, almost exotic-looking bird as a child—usually in field guides—and my father told me it was very rare, and that we would probably never see or experience it in Denmark.
Here is a male I encountered this morning. I was the only person there, and the bird was not very wary. It remained in the same area for a long time, giving me a good opportunity to photograph it. It was very vocal, singing loudly from bushes in the low vegetation it prefers. It is in fact also known for imitating other small birds.
I feel very fortunate to have now experienced this fascinating and beautiful bird firsthand
